Meanwhile Back in Queens:
“Dear Summer”

“Dear Summer” — Summer Capsule Collection

Ain’t no summer like a Queens Summer.

I created an original pattern, illustration, and custom letttering for MBIQ’s Summer capsule: “Dear Summer.”

All themes and symbols pay homage to the roots and culture of Queens, NY.

LAUNCHED AUGUST 2024

The pattern draws inspiration from the paisleys and swirls of a standard bandana. However, we wanted to weave in finer details to create a story of our own.

Within the design, you’ll spot symbols representing Queens and New York City as a whole, including roses, tulips, wampum shells, and an ode to the iconic New York coffee cup.

This lockup gives homage to the roots of Queens and the official emblem of the borough itself.

The tulip represents the Dutch and the rose represents the English, held together by Wampum beads, the indigenous peoples of the Eastern Woodlands.

“Queens” custom lettering reflecting the iconic sharpied price tags in NYC bodegas (or “corner stores” or “delis” — we can discuss which is correct 👀).
